[fixation at the anal stage of development]
You all know I like categories, right? (It looks like I'm writing my masters thesis about them, anyway.) Well, I have a categorization question: What should I put in the ID3v2 genre box for pre-rock artists who aren't jazz singers, e.g., Vera Lynn, Edith Piaf, even Rosemary Clooney (although she sing jazz, too)? I know they were pop at the time, but that word has such connotations. Great American Songbook (but then you get into another categorization problem)? Traditional pop (don't really like this)? And what do I do when a jazz musician (e.g., Louis Armstrong) sings the Great American Songbook (e.g., Cole Porter)? Boxes, precious boxes...

(I think I need to take a pill.)
